Prayer and Spiritual Warfare"Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray (James 5:13 NIV)." One thing that should be obvious at this point is that we are facing an adversary that is smarter than us, more experienced than us, stronger than us and—if that weren't bad enough—an enemy that doesn't even need to sleep! And make no mistake about it, the Devil is your personal enemy: "Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8 NIV)." If that were all there is to it, we would all be defeated. However, there is a God. And God is wiser and more powerful than the Devil and all his demons combined: "greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4 KJV)." This assumes, of course, that you have accepted Jesus as your Savior. However, God's help doesn't come automatically. One thing that is absolutely essential is to pray. And not just once or twice as part of a daily routine. The Scripture above makes it very clear that we should also pray whenever we are in trouble. This is a discipline that can be developed with practice. If you work at it, it will become a habit. Sometimes I come under spiritual attack when I am just waking up. Most of the time, I go directly to prayer as a matter of habit. Prayer is one of your most powerful weapons in spiritual warfare. However, as with any weapon, it does you no good unless you use it.
