Don't Curse the Devil

"But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not dare to bring a slanderous accusation against him, but said, 'The Lord rebuke you!' (Jude 1:9 NIV)."

I once had a client whose diagnosis was Paranoid Schizophrenia. Among his symptoms were, what psychologists would call, tactile hallucinations. That is, the client is feeling something that really is not there. In his case, his symptoms included physical pain which he described as "knives" in his feet!

This client also stated that he was very angry at the Devil and spent time angrily insulting him with language which is unprintable. The above Scripture came to mind.

I told him to stop insulting the Devil. And he did. The 'knives in his feet' virtually disappeared in a week or so. By insulting the Devil (a sin), this client had given the Devil a spiritual foothold. When he stopped sinning in this way, the foothold was diminished and the pain ceased.

This is just another example of how knowing and applying Scripture can help resolve mental health symptoms. Scripture makes it possible for us to understand what is going on and provides real solutions to these problems.
